Latinx heritage month
A special moment for the youth in Pilsen and Little Village. Champs Sports requested I organize a panel of Latino Community Leaders and 30 high school students to attend a shoe customizing workshop for Latino Heritage Month. I organized a panel of five leaders and entrepreneurs who play a influential role in Chicago. My focus was to organize a group of leaders the youth would gravitate too. Understanding the youth are influenced by people that would understand their backgrounds, look and talk like them, I intentionally picked leaders that would empower and influence them. The panel was 45 minutes and best part is the students asked important questions and spoke with the panelist after the event.
In additional to 30 high schoolers they also allowed me to invite newly arrived migrant teenagers to attend. All the attendees received a free pair of shoes to customize in a workshop taught by a popular local artist. It was a special moment for myself to be able curate and organize a beautiful event. My favorite part of this, is many of the young students became friends after this moment and even started to actively volunteer on my community projects.
